A large division of a FTSE100 logistics corporation, generating
several billion USD in terms of sales a year, operating in 8 countries
and employing over 20’000 full time equivalents.
Objectives:
Introduction of a web-based operations controlling system for all
major functions, such as business unit general management, finance,
S&M, HR, operations, IT, best practice, communication, internal
audit.
Main milestones achieved:
1. Scoping: definition
of project benefits and added value with a steering committee lead
by senior management.
2. Planning and business specification: detailed
business specification with a core project team including one senior
manager, APMC consultant as project manager, six superusers from
3 main business units and 3 headquarter functions, head of development
from an external outsourcing company
3. Workshops with project
team, business unit sponsors and superusers
4. First development of
the controlling solution by an external outsourcing company including
a planning and reporting module.
5. Setup of a 3-level functional
and technical support structure
6. Pilots in three major
business units
7. Pilots in all business
units
8. Improvement of the first version according to insights gained
during pilots.
9. Go-live of planning module
including workshops
10. Go-live of reporting module
including workshops in 8 countries. APMC workshops where held in
English, French, Italian and Portuguese.
Added value:
After implementation the division was able to:

plan and budget top-down bottom-up objectives, activities and
actions in terms of milestones, accountabilities, timing, measures
- report actual achievements
- highlight deviations
- define corrective actions
within the intranet of the division. This provided more transparency
and better quality decisions for the several management layers involved.
