Project Management Phase 2: Planning

The degree of sophistication for a project plan varies with its size. The first step of the planning phase within a medium or large size project is to make sure all communication channels are set up. APMC elaborates detailed documentation and normally creates a project intranet including all relevant information, a feedback forum, a FAQ section as well as other relevant pages. However, the most important communication channel within a project will always remain the personal contact within meetings, coffee breaks and special events such as workshops.

After building project communication channels a project structure plan (PSP) has to be set up. This will include a detailed action plan with clear responsibilities and a timeframe displaying deadlines for activities and their dependencies. Obviously a cost and resources budget is an integral part of every project plan as well. Further on APMC always tries to define measurable key success indicators on which interim management or consulting fees are based.

APMC also supports clients to perform a risk analysis including potential roadblocks and the way project management proactively tries to remove them. Risks are often related to customers or employees acceptance due to changes in their daily procedures, to unexpected costs, delays due to insufficient business specifications, time restrictions for staff with other work to do as well. A well conducted risk management can safe huge amounts of money.
